What you should know about VyprVPNs Chameleon Protocol.

We’ve known that VyprVPN is one of the few VPN Providers that offers a free option to users. Currently, VyprVPN offers mobile users 500MB of free VPN-use each month and is available to Android and iOS users via the Android Play Store and Apple App Store. Users can seamlessly upgrade to a paid account through these apps as well. Free stuff is cool but it’s not unique and people that are after the best VPNs probably aren’t totally impressed by free.

What is the Chameleon VPN protocol?

Recently a representative from Vypr contacted me to tell me about some of the features VpyrVPN has that others may not. One of these was a claim that:
“VyprVPN is currently the only VPN provider than owns and maintains all of our own infrastructure. Other VPN providers use 3rd party-hosted servers where as we own, engineer, and manage all of our own servers. Not only does this make our service more secure (less hands managing users’ data), but it also allows us to deliver the fastest and most reliable connections (we can change, manipulate, and update our servers on the fly since we have direct access whereas other providers don’t)” Now we get to something a little different. As mentioned above people that one of the best VPNs are serious about security and anonymity. VyprVPN has developed a their own proprietary protocol called Chameleon.

What is Chameleon Protocol

The Chameleon technology is designed to scramble VPN Meta-data so that governments and corporate entities that try to block VPN connections are unable to do so.This is especially useful as in countries like China, Turkey, Russia, India and throughout the middle east browsing restrictions are severe and penalties extreme. You need to use a VPN to access Gmail in China for example. We can confirm that in testing the VyprVPN bypassed all the firewalls we were running.

What is Chameleon Protocol

Chameleon also works at resolving speed issues due to bandwidth throttling.
On to the logging.
VyprVPN does keep logs for 30 days, though their privacy policy states.

  • Does not log a user’s traffic or the content of any communications
  • Does not perform deep packet inspection of your traffic, except where requested by the customer for firewall purposes.
  • Does not perform shallow packet inspection of your traffic, except where requested by the customer for firewall purposes.
  • Does not discriminate against devices, protocols, or applications. Golden Frog is network neutral.
  • Does not throttle your Internet connection.
  • Does not rate limit Internet connections.

While based in the United States VyprVPN say they will not provide any member information without a subpoena.
So there you have it. Something to keep in mind when you’re making the choice on one of the best VPNS.
